Cookie Notice
Last updated November 5, 2026
This Cookie Notice explains how BlumeIEP LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies when you use our services ("Services"), such as our websites at https://www.blumemethod.com and https://notebook.blumemethod.com, our web application at https://blumemethod.app, our mobile applications, and any other website or application of ours that links to this notice. It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and the choices you have.
This notice is part of, and should be read with, our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and share personal information and what rights you may have. If you have questions, please contact us at info@blumemethod.com.
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES?
In Short: Cookies and similar technologies are small pieces of information stored on, or read from, your device.
- Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser. First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting, and third-party cookies are set by another domain. Session cookies end when you close your browser, and persistent cookies last until they expire or you delete them.
- Browser storage, such as local storage, session storage, and IndexedDB, lets a website keep information in your browser. It does the same kind of job as a cookie, but it is not sent to a server automatically with each request.
- Pixels and web beacons are small pieces of code or images that tell a server a page was viewed.
- Software development kits (SDKs) are code in a mobile application that can do similar things, using storage and identifiers on your device.
- Session replay is code that records how you interact with a page so that we can view a reconstruction of your visit. It uses cookies to group your activity into a session.
In this notice, "cookies" includes these similar technologies unless we say otherwise.
2. WHY DO WE USE THEM?
In Short: To run and protect the Services, remember your choices, understand how the Services are used, and fix problems. We do not use them for advertising.
We group the technologies we use into the categories below. We do not use cookies to show you advertising, to build advertising profiles, or to sell your personal information. We do not use them to collect information directly from students: the Services are intended for educators and the people who support them. See "DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?" in our Privacy Policy.
3. WHICH COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES DO WE USE?
In Short: The tables below list the main technologies we use today, by category.
These lists reflect the Services as of the date above. Because we run several websites and applications, and because our providers may change the names and lifetimes of what they set, the exact items in your browser may differ from time to time. Where a name ends in an asterisk, the rest of the name varies. Periods set by a provider are described as that provider documents them, and we do not control them.
Strictly necessary
These are needed for the Services to work, to keep them secure, or to remember a choice you asked us to remember. They do not require your consent where the law provides an exception for strictly necessary technologies, and the Services may not work properly without them.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Where it is used | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_GRECAPTCHA | Google (reCAPTCHA), third party | Helps protect our web application from automated abuse, as part of the security check that runs when the application talks to our servers. | Web application | Cookie, as set by Google, generally up to about 6 months |
firebase:authUser:* and firebaseLocalStorageDb | Google (Firebase Authentication), first party | Keeps you signed in and identifies your account to our servers. | Web application | Browser storage, until you sign out or clear it |
blume-cookies | Blume, first party | Remembers whether you accepted or declined the cookies described below, so that we respect your choice and do not ask again on every page. | Notebook website | Browser storage, until you clear it or change your choice |
Functional
These remember your settings so that the Services work the way you left them. They stay in your browser, and we do not use them to track you.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Where it is used | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
blume-theme and similar theme settings | Blume, first party | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark look. | Websites and web application | Browser storage, until you clear it or change it |
| Workspace preferences | Blume, first party | Remembers things such as the team you last had open, where you were on a page, and a draft you have not finished, which may include what you typed into it. Educators should use a device they are permitted to use for student information. | Web application | Browser storage, until you finish the task, sign out, or clear it |
Analytics
These help us understand how many people visit, which pages they use, and how they found us, so that we can improve the Services. We use Google Analytics. On https://notebook.blumemethod.com it runs with Google signals and ad personalization turned off. Our analytics cookies are set for our domain, so a cookie set on one of our blumemethod.com websites may also be readable on another.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Where it is used | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics, first party | Distinguishes one browser from another, so that we can count visitors and see how our websites are used. | Websites | Cookie, 2 years |
_ga_* | Google Analytics, first party | Keeps the state of your visit, such as when a session started and how many there have been. | Websites | Cookie, 2 years |
firebase-* browser databases | Google (Firebase), first party | Supports Google Analytics for Firebase on our main website. | Main website | Browser storage, until you clear it |
blume-visitor browser storage | Blume, first party | If you accept, keeps a random identifier, how you first reached the site, and whether you appear interested as an educator or for a team, so that we can understand visits together. | Blume Notebook website | Browser storage, until you clear it or withdraw consent |
When you follow a link to contact us, the link says where on the page you chose it. If you have accepted analytics, it also says how you first reached the site and which of those interests you appear to have, so that the service that takes your request can record them. It never carries your name, anything you typed, or a session replay recording.
Session replay
We use LogRocket, Inc. to view reconstructions of visits, so that we can find problems and improve the Services. What it collects, and the information it masks and does not record, is described under "Session Replay Data" in Section 1 of our Privacy Policy. According to LogRocket, these cookies are first-party cookies and by default do not contain identifiable information. The recordings themselves are stored by LogRocket, are kept for a limited period, and are then automatically deleted.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Where it is used | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_lr_tabs_* | LogRocket, first party | Groups the pages you view into one session, and detects whether that session is already active in another tab. | Websites and web application | Cookie, for a period set by LogRocket |
_lr_hb_* | LogRocket, first party | Holds a timestamp, updated periodically, that helps detect whether a session is active in another tab. | Websites and web application | Cookie, for a period set by LogRocket |
Embedded content and fonts
- Videos. Some pages of https://www.blumemethod.com embed videos from Vimeo and from YouTube, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Those providers may set their own cookies or similar technologies, in particular when you play a video. We do not control them, and their own policies apply.
- Fonts. The Blume Notebook website hosts its own fonts, so opening it sends no request to Google. Some of our other websites and web applications load fonts from Google Fonts. When one of those pages opens, your browser requests the fonts from Google's servers, which necessarily reveals your IP address to Google, whether or not you have accepted cookies. We do not use this request to track you.
4. HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT IN OUR MOBILE APPLICATIONS?
In Short: Mobile applications use SDKs and device storage rather than browser cookies.
Our mobile applications use Google Analytics for Firebase to count events and screens, and LogRocket for session replay. These may collect your account identifier, the identifiers and characteristics of your device, and your IP address. They keep information such as your sign-in and settings on your device. In Blume Notebook and Blume Admin, session replay is limited to screens that name no student, such as your profile and joining a team, and other screens are not recorded. Blume Academy, which does not show students, records its screens as they appear, apart from those we restrict. To limit this collection, you can use your device's privacy settings or delete the application.
5. WHAT CHOICES DO YOU HAVE?
In Short: You can use our cookie banner, your browser's privacy signals and settings, and the tools our providers offer.
- Our cookie banner. On https://notebook.blumemethod.com, analytics and session replay do not load unless you choose Accept. You can decline, and you can change your mind at any time using Cookie settings at the foot of any page. If you withdraw consent, we remove the analytics and session replay cookies we are able to remove from your browser, and they do not load again. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything collected before you did so.
- Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, analytics and session replay do not start on https://notebook.blumemethod.com, and session replay does not start on https://www.blumemethod.com. See "CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES" in our Privacy Policy.
- Our other Services. https://www.blumemethod.com does not currently show a cookie banner, and analytics runs there when the page loads unless you use one of the controls in this section. In our web application, session replay and the other technologies listed above are part of how we provide and support the Services.
- Your browser. Most browsers let you see, block, and delete cookies and browser storage. Instructions are available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. If you block or delete strictly necessary technologies, you may be signed out or some features may not work. Clearing them also clears the choices we were remembering for you.
- Google Analytics. Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on all websites. See also how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Extensions. Browser settings and extensions that block tracking scripts can also prevent analytics and session replay, although some features of the Services may then not work.
To ask us to delete session replay recordings associated with you or your account, email us at info@blumemethod.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, which are described in our Privacy Policy.
6. WHO ARE THE THIRD PARTIES AND WHERE IS THE INFORMATION PROCESSED?
In Short: We use a small number of service providers, and they have their own privacy policies.
The providers named in this notice may process information collected through these technologies, which may include your IP address and information about your device, on servers in the United States and in other countries. How they handle it is described in their own policies: Google, LogRocket, and Vimeo. We do not control the technologies these providers set, other than by choosing whether and how to use their services. Our websites also link to other sites, such as social media, which have their own cookies and policies once you visit them. For more about how we share information and our position on selling or sharing personal information, see our Privacy Policy.
7. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS NOTICE?
In Short: Yes, we will update this notice as needed.
We may update this notice from time to time, for example when we change the technologies we use or when the law changes. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and will take effect when it is posted. We encourage you to review this notice periodically.
